What Is MOQ in Activewear? (And How to Plan Your First Order)
What MOQ actually means for your yoga brand: why it exists, how to plan a first order around it, and the questions worth asking any supplier before you commit.

If you have spent any time researching activewear manufacturing, you have run into those three letters. MOQ - minimum order quantity. They appear in every price list, every supplier profile, every first conversation.
And almost nobody explains what they actually mean for your business.
So let me walk you through MOQ from the supply side: what it is, why it exists, and how to think about it when you are planning your first yoga wear order.
What MOQ actually is
MOQ is the smallest quantity a factory will produce of a single style, in a single color. Not per order - per style per color. If a factory's MOQ is 800 pieces per color and you want one style in black and espresso, you are looking at 1,600 pieces total.
Why does this minimum exist? Because setting up production has fixed work regardless of quantity: fabric has to be sourced in minimum roll lengths, patterns have to be graded, machines have to be set up and calibrated, and QC has to run on the whole batch. Below a certain volume, that fixed work costs more than the garments are worth.
MOQ is not a arbitrary tax on small brands. It is the floor at which production stays honest - where the factory can maintain quality standards without losing money on your order.
Why MOQs vary so much between suppliers
You will see MOQs ranging from 50 pieces to several thousand. The number tells you something about the supplier's model.
Trading companies with no production of their own can offer very low minimums because they are aggregating your order with others. The risk: less control over quality, fabric and timelines, and your branding depends on layers of middlemen.
Factories with their own lines set MOQs that keep their production runs efficient. Lower MOQ from a real factory usually means they run a flexible, smaller-batch program alongside their bulk work - which is exactly what a growing brand needs.
At Miss K, our programs run at 800 to 1,000 pieces per color. We work with established manufacturing partners in Guangzhou, and that range is where quality, pricing and scheduling stay honest for everyone involved. It is low enough for a growing brand to test styles without overcommitting, and high enough that every piece gets proper attention on the line.
How to plan your first order within a MOQ
Working inside a MOQ is a planning exercise. Here is how our clients typically approach it:
• Choose styles that share a color. If your MOQ is per color, two styles in the same black fabric share the dye lot - your budget goes further.
• Start with your hero piece. The style you are most confident about carries the order; the experimental pieces come in round two.
• Use the full size range. MOQ usually counts all sizes together, so a balanced size curve is easier to hit than all-medium.
• Think in seasons, not one-offs. A first order that sells through justifies a reorder - and reorders are where margins improve.
The questions worth asking about MOQ
When you talk to any supplier, these questions will tell you more than the MOQ number itself:
• Is your MOQ per style, per color, or per order? The answer changes your planning completely.
• What happens if I want to reorder the same style - is the MOQ lower on repeats?
• Does the MOQ include all sizes, and can I adjust the size curve to my market?
• What QC standard applies across the full MOQ quantity?
A supplier who answers these clearly and without hedging is telling you how they will communicate when something goes wrong. That matters more than a low number on a price list.
The honest math
MOQ is not going away, and it should not. It is the mechanism that keeps quality standards real and production lines accountable. What you want is a supplier whose MOQ matches your stage - low enough to start without overcommitting, structured enough to guarantee that piece 800 gets the same care as piece one.
That balance is what we built our programs around at Miss K. Our 2026 reference range of 8 styles - from no-front-seam leggings to ballet wrap layers - is available for private label at 800 to 1,000 pieces per color, in Black, Espresso, Cream, Sage and Blue Grey, with sampling before you commit to bulk.
If you want to talk through your first order and what makes sense at your stage, reach out at info@misskyoga.com or WhatsApp +86 136 4085 9182 - or browse the reference styles on our products page first. We would rather give you honest numbers upfront than win you over with a figure that changes after the deposit.
